Michael Terence “Terry” McCarthy was a teacher, writer and chicken farmer who spent more than 30 years helping recovering alcoholics through the 12 Step Program.
The father of eight children (Michael, William, Peggy, Padraic, Kevin, Brian, Nadine, and Joseph) he and his wife Lindy became surrogate parents to hundreds of troubled teens when they joined the staff of The Family Foundation School in 1993.
A gifted counselor and popular teacher and mentor, Terry taught Living Skills classes to middle school and high school students, and conducted Parent Seminars and Family Group counseling sessions.
His dedication to the principles of 12 Step living was the subject of “Quo Vadis,” a regular column in the school’s student newspaper, The Family Times, in which he shared his experience, strength and hope.
Terry died on October 9, 2010 at the age of 62.
